Event Description:
This is a 1x/month Walk-Up only Farmers Market Distribution where each family will receive & be able to choose from uncased items such as Fresh Produce, Rice or Beans and other nonperishables/canned goods, dairy/milk, eggs and possibly 1 frozen protein item (usually chicken) . We have converted to this new Farmers Market model which will provide an elevated experience for both Volunteers and Clients. We welcome you to become part of the team setting the foundation for ongoing community improvements and connection by considering signing up as a recurring volunteer at this site.
Food distribution is a hands-on volunteer activity. Activities could include assisting with site set up, unloading and moving food from pallets to the distribution area; sorting, prepacking and distributing food; and clean up. This is a great chance for volunteers to interface with our clients. This volunteer activity does require some heavy lifting (a minimum of 25lbs.) and regular movement.
The volunteer must be willing and able to work with people of different backgrounds and nationalities, exhibit compassion and sensitivity, maintain strict confidentiality of all member and volunteer information.
YOU MUST SIGN UP DIRECTLY WITH THE SECOND HARVEST FOOD BANK LINKED HERE AND YOU MUST RECEIVE AN EMAIL CONFIRMATION IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE
What we'll be doing:
Volunteers will select / be assigned a produce or grocery item to distribute. In the case that there are too few volunteers you may be asked to distribute 2 items.
What you should know:
VOLUNTEERS NEED TO CHECK IN WITH THE SCHOOL OFFICE AT 550 E MARKET FIRST TO REGISTER WITH YOUR DRIVERS LICENSE/ID. THIS WILL ALLOW ACCESS TO THE BATHROOMS. AFTER REGISTERING, YOU WILL ONLY NEED TO PICK UP A NAME TAG EACH TIME YOU VOLUNTEER AT FUTURE DISTRIBUTIONS. Parking available in the lot
Volunteer Checklist:
- Please arrive early.
- Carpooling is encouraged.
- Wear closed-toe shoes. Sleeveless shirts and sandals are not permitted.
- Dress for the weather. This food distribution site is outdoors.
- Bring water and snacks.
- If you need verification for service hours, our staff can only sign Second Harvest timecards.
- If you need to cancel, use your personal page (included in your confirmation from Second Harvest Food Bank)
Again, this is an outdoor site. Please bring sun protection and dress in layers. You will be given a safety vest to wear during the shift. Please return the vest upon completion of your volunteer duties.
Reverend Stan will lead volunteers in a short prayer prior to setting up our distribution item(s)
Please bring a backpack or a wheeled cart. Prior to the distribution volunteers will be able to take up to a single family's portion of produce / grocery for their own personal use.
