Event Description:

Join our friends at Kara & Rise Against Hunger nonprofit packing of 10,000 meals, usually sent to an African or south Asian country where food and healthy nutrition is scarce

What we'll be doing:

Join 20-25 other volunteers to pack 10,000 dry nutritional meals, seal the bags, and pack in boxes for shipping. Place date labels on 10,000 bags, add food portions to bags, e.g. dried vegetables, dried soy protein, nutritional yeast, seasonings; add rice to these partially filled bags using a scale to achieve a targeted weight range, hot-seal the bags, pack the bags into boxes for shipping.

This is not a religious or church-affiliated activity, but is social justice in action.

Free pizza at 11:30, 5 minute inspirational talk by Rise Against Hunger, and then the packing fest begins with awesome music and a gong for every 1,000 packages completed!

Rise Against Hunger:

While long-term food security projects take root, communities facing hunger still need to meet their basic needs today. We provide nutritional support through Rise Against Hunger meals, which contain 20 vitamins and minerals, and local regional procurement, which procures foods locally, to meet community needs. These safety net programs not only provide nourishment, but also support education, skills training, and health services that support the difficult journey out of poverty. As communities continue to experience a lack of access to food, we are working to expand our efforts to consistently provide nutritious food through educational settings to over 6 million people by 2025.
