Event Description:

Community Servings is a not-for-profit food and nutrition program providing services throughout Massachusetts to individuals and families living with critical and chronic illnesses. The organization gives its clients, their dependent families, and caregivers appealing, nutritious meals, and send the message to those in greatest need that someone cares. Its goals are to help clients maintain their health and dignity and preserve the integrity of their families through free, culturally appropriate, home-delivered meals, nutrition education, and other community programs.

What we'll be doing:

As a part of the awesome team of volunteers (on a daily basis there's about 55 volunteers that walk through the doors to assist the staff in preparing, packaging, and delivering 750 meals a day!) you will be part of the 6-8pm night shift crew, who will be working closely with the kitchen staff to prepare and package food for the next day's menu. This will in turn help the 9am-12pm staff help prepare food for the clients the next day! As part of the night shift crew, the volunteers will also be helping to sanitize the kitchen. Singing "A Spoon of Sugar" during the sanitizing session is not mandatory, but encouraged!

What you should know:

There will be a ~30 minute orientation session for all new volunteers at the beginning portion of the volunteer shift. This is mainly to provide some guidelines on safe food handling.

There is a dress code! Please come in comfortable clothes and shoes. Everyone needs to wear either pants or a long skirt, shoes that cover and protect the feet and a shirt that has at least a t-shirt length sleeve. Your head will need to be covered. You can bring a baseball hat or Community Servings will provide a hairnet. An apron will be provided but spills and stains can happen. Remember, if you are not dressed appropriately you will not be able to volunteer!

Community Servings is located at 18 Marbury Terrace in Jamaica Plain, just minutes from the Stony Brook station on the MBTA Orange Line. We will be meeting on July 12th at 6pm sharp!
