Event Description:

One Brick is again heading out to Phoenix Lake at Mt. Tam to remove with specially designed plant tweezers a violent yellow flowered plant. French Broom is a highly invasive non-native plant which out-competes native plants. In areas where it takes over, little other vegetation grows. Animals receive no benefits from it either: they do not feed off, or nest in the broom. Many rare plants on Mt Tamalpias are in danger of being taken over by the broom. Last time we were there we cleared an entire segment of the lake free of the yellow trees that had grown over the path. We were the most productive group this year they have had out there! We will be working with Americorps on this project. Created in 1993, AmeriCorps is a network of national service programs that engage more than 50,000 Americans each year in intensive service to meet critical needs in education, public safety, health, and the environment. They monitor and protect rare species, remove invasive non-natives and take measures to protect the environment.
