Event Description:
Join us in Seattle for Densho’s 30th Anniversary Gala: Legacy in Motion on September 26th, 2026, a celebration to honor our decades-long journey, as well as the people and community who helped build Densho. This will be our first in-person gala since 2020, held at the Sunset Club.
The evening will begin with a festive reception and feature Taiko drumming and folk music by NW Minyo Kai, as well as the premiere of Densho’s new documentary short film. Emcee Harold Taniguchi will lead a conversation with Executive Director Naomi Ostwald Kawamura and Founding Executive Director Tom Ikeda, and we will raise a glass to Content Director Brian Niiya as he begins his retirement. The evening includes drinks, appetizers, dinner, and dessert.
To commemorate this milestone, we will share memories, toast to those who came before us, and reflect on the impact of our work. Please join us in celebrating all we have accomplished together, as we step into our next era of preservation, education, and stewardship.
What we'll be doing:
Volunteers will be assigned to one of the following roles:
Set-up (6 people): Volunteers will be paired with staff leads to support the set-up of each location.
Greeters (4): Enthusiastic volunteers will welcome folks to the event. One pair will be stationed at the front door. They will be briefed on where the accessible entrance for longer loading times is (courtyard door facing Boren). One volunteer can help escort folks to the Courtyard door if they need a longer loading time. The other will greet guests. One pair will be stationed around the registration tables to support folks going to the appropriate line and helping them wayfind to the different program areas after the guests check in.
VIP Wayfinders (2): VIP Wayfinders will help VIP Pre-Event Happy Hour guests after they have stopped at registration for their name tags, they will escort folks to the second floor Centennial Room to join the VIP Happy hour and will be briefed on the elevators to support folks who may not want to take the stairs. After the happy hour they will help VIPs identify program spaces and answer questions.
Registration Table (4): Trusted volunteers will support the registration table with advanced training before the event (additional recorded training meeting) as their role carries a lot of responsibility. They will have an Auctria-loaded computer to go through the process of registering guests. They will have downloaded the Auctria mobile app to process cards and to register them for the event. Additionally, they will locate the name tags for their corresponding guest and pass them along to the guests. Any change of bid cards will have to be flagged for the table-runners to adjust the bid card packets at tables.
Registration Table Runners (2): These folks will primarily help with grabbing name tags for registration guests, manage the line, and can even check people in with their mobile apps. Critically they will be responsible for making any changes to the bid card packets at the tables. If there is a need to change a bid card number from a table, a registration staff/volunteer will give them the bid card, table number and bid card to replace. They will go from the Ballroom to the registration table to adjust any bid card packets at tables.
What you should know:
A light meal will be provided to volunteers. Volunteers are asked to wear a white shirt and black (or dark) pants or skirt.
Where to Meet:
