Event Description:

The 24th International Film Series features eight of the world’s top films—all shown in person—immediately followed by discussions with filmmakers, film subjects or expert speakers. From moments of upheaval to transformative experiences, the films delve into the complexities of human existence with depth, compassion, insight—and even humor. In these remarkable stories from around the globe, we invite you to immerse yourself in the narratives of individuals and groups confronting the unexpected twists and turns that life presents, helping us gain a deeper understanding of resilience, adaptation, and the universal truths that bind us.

What we'll be doing:

Volunteers will help set up the tables, put out the food, paper plates, utensils etc. Be available to monitor during the reception and then help to clean up.

What you should know:

Volunteers should come dress neatly, white tops and dark pants if possible.

Where to Meet:

West Newton Cinema, 1296 Washington St., West Newton.  Volunteers can ask where the location of the Belmont World Film reception is located inside the theater.  It will likely be on the second floor lobby.  Ask for Ellen Gitelman

Belmont World Film:

Belmont World Film is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that promotes cross-cultural understanding through the universal language of film. In addition to showing award-winning feature films, documentaries, animation, and shorts from around the world, our screenings feature in-depth discussions led by filmmakers and experts, as well as cultural performances and ethnic cuisine.

Each year we work with local and international organizations to present a Family Festival in January, an international film series in the spring, and other special events throughout the year. Films come from countries from far away as Bhutan, Bolivia, Brazil, Iraq, Latvia, Mongolia and Uganda, and as close as Belgium, Bulgaria, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, The Netherlands, Romania, and the United Kingdom.

Since 2002, Belmont World Film’s Family Film Festival has been a must-attend event for families in the Greater Boston area with children ages 3-12, offering the opportunity to view some of the world’s most significant films for children as they were meant to be seen — on a big screen as a shared experience with others — as well as opening a window into the lives of children in other countries.
