Event Description:

We will join forces with other volunteer groups in a big gymnasium to put together 7,500 sandwiches and lunch bags. The meals will be delivered to help feed many people affected by food insecurity. You will be helping veterans, seniors, homeless, refugees, migrants, and women and children affected by domestic violence. This monthly project is Chicago's largest feeding project on a single morning, with an impact of helping 7500 people with a meal that is made with care and love.  Come volunteer with your friends and family. This event is handicap accessible.

What we'll be doing:

We will be joining 100 other volunteers in the community to make sandwiches and packing lunch bags.

What you should know:

This is a montly event, indoor gymnasium is handicap accessible and the event can accommocate volunteers at any ability level or with special needs. 1 block from CTA red line and many CTA Bus routes. Free parking lot on site.

Hitting the Streets is a non-profit organization, with no paid staff, dedicated to supplying homeless individuals with lunches and essential supplies to help meet their basic needs. Our reach extends to various areas around the city of Chicago. Started in a home kitchen in 2013 making meals for 50 people, we have adapted and evolved to making a bigger impact every year. Our event has now expanded to fill a whole gymnasium every month and producing 7,500 meals in a single morning to feed our community. We deliver meals up to 28 different shelters and sites across the city and we started a new chapter in Sarasota, Florida in January 2024.
