Event Description:
It's that time again—Scaregrove is back, ushering in the holiday season!
Join the San Francisco Recreation and Parks Department as a volunteer at this year's Scaregrove Halloween event at Stern Grove. This year's theme to be Boo on the Bayou! Activities change annually, and we expect to need assistance in the following areas:
- Food / Chill Zone
- Randall on the Road - Leading small carnival-like games
- Arts & Crafts
- Haunted Haze Maze
Volunteer assignments will be given on a first-come, first-served basis, depending on the needs at the time. While we aim to match volunteers with their interests, we ask that you arrive ready to help wherever needed.
IMPORTANT!! In addition to RSVPing on the One Brick event page please sign up on the San Francisco Rec & Parks Department's official volunteer link for 2:30pm shift. Please sign up under the "Individual Sign Up" tab.
If by chance you are available to volunteer for both the afternoon and evening shifts from 3pm to 9pm DO NOT sign up on the above link but visit this One Brick listing instead.
Failure to follow instructions correctly may result in you being removed from the list.

What you should know:
PARTS OF THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION ARE NOT CONFIRMED AND SUBJECT TO CHANGE
General Parking: Street parking will be very limited around the Stern Grove area. We recommend arriving early to find parking if you drive.
Passenger Drop-off and Pick-up: Paratransit, rideshare, taxis, and personal vehicles can drop off in the temporary passenger loading zone on Crestlake Drive, near the Vale Street entrance to the event. There will be a shuttle stop at the passenger loading zone. There will be a second passenger loading zone on Sloat at 19th Avenue, on the north side of Sloat. Note that this passenger loading zone does not connect with the accessible shuttle. If you arrive at this location you will have to make your way down the hill at 19th and Sloat to the event entrance.
Public Transportation:
28-19th Avenue Bus to Sloat and 19th Avenue
- Enter the event at the northwest corner of 19th and Sloat. Follow the pedestrian-only road down into Stern Grove to the eastern event entrance at the bottom of the hill
23 Monterey Bus
- Enter the event at Crestlake Drive and Vale Avenue
- There are free shuttle stops at the bus stops at Sloat and Paraiso Place and at the stop at Sloat and Vale Avenue
Free Accessible Shuttle (Late Shift volunteers only):
We will be running a free, accessible shuttle at the western entrance to the event at Vale Avenue. The shuttle will seat 16 passengers, including two wheelchairs. The shuttle will make continuous loops during the event, beginning at 4pm until 9:30pm. Wait time for the shuttle is estimated at about 15 minutes.
- One GGP shuttle will be used to shuttle participants from accessible parking on Crestlake Drive down Vale to the event.
- The shuttle will do a small loop on Sloat connecting the shuttle to the 23
- Bike valet will be provided at Sloat and 19th
- Public Transportation Options: 23, 28 or Muni Metro M/K at West Portal
Shuttle Stops:
- The 23 Monterey bus stop at Sloat and Paraiso Place
- The 23 Monterey bus stop at Sloat and Vale Avenue
- At the temporary passenger loading zone at Crestlake and Vale
- The shuttle will also stop at the disability parking areas on Crestlake Drive on either side of Vale upon request
- The western entrance of the event at the Vale Avenue parking lot.
Bicycle Valet Parking: FREE bicycle valet parking will be provided by San Francisco Bicycle Coalition. Bicycle parking will be located at 19th Avenue and Sloat, at the top of the hill, on the south side of the road. Note that there is no shuttle at this entrance to the event.
Stern Grove Pathways and Surfaces: The main pathway in Stern Grove is accessible. The roads leading down to the event are steep and have cracks, potholes, and other elevation changes and are not recommended for people with mobility disabilities.
Food Trucks: There will be Food trucks in two locations.
- At the Vale Avenue parking lot at the western end of the event
- At the concert meadow parking lot at the eastern end of the event
Restrooms: There will be restrooms and portable toilets in three locations. All restroom locations include accessible restrooms.
- Next to the Trocadero Clubhouse, at the eastern end of the event, north of the food court (permanent restrooms)
- In the concern meadow parking lot, south of the food court area, at the eastern end of the event (permanent and portable restrooms)
- Next to the food court area, in the Vale Avenue parking lot, at the western end of the event (portable toilets) Activities The main pathway through Stern Grove is wheelchair accessible.
