Event Description:

Celebrate the Year of the Snake at the Wing Luke Museum! The museum is seeking friendly volunteers to help visitors of all ages learn about Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander traditions through hands-on activities. Our Lunar New Year Fair is the museum's biggest day of the year, and it brings many new faces to small businesses in Seattle's historic Chinatown-International District neighborhood.

What we'll be doing:

Prize Table Volunteers: Volunteers will be stationed in the Community Hall inside the museum at our prize table. Volunteers distribute prizes to visitors ages 12 and under who have completed the Lunar New Year passport by participating in activities around the museum. After the Lunar New Year Fair ends at 3 pm, volunteers will assist staff with gallery & space cleanup.

Depending on needs, volunteers may also be assigned to the following roles:

  • Greeter
  • Passport Stamper
  • Craft & Activity Leaders
  • Animal Scavenger Hunt Leader

What you should know:

Volunteers will be provided with a volunteer lounge with food and drinks. The Wing also provides volunteer benefits throughout the year, including reciprocal admission during National Volunteer Week! :)

Physical Requirements: Volunteers should be able to stand, walk, and perform light lifting, reaching, and bending for this shift. Accommodations may be possible for those who need to remain seated during this volunteer shift.

Getting Here: Street parking and paid lot parking are nearby (including the small Diamond parking lot behind the museum and the large InterIm parking lot under I-5), plus The Wing is a short walk from the International District/Chinatown Link Light Rail Station.

Entrance: The main entrance of the museum is on S King St, in between 8th Ave S and Canton Alley. Please check in at the Admissions Desk at The Wing and let them know that you're a One Brick volunteer!

Personal Items: While the museum does have areas to store coats & small personal items, please plan to leave larger valuables at home or keep valuables with you as the main volunteer lounge will not be locked or guarded at all times.

What to Wear: Solid, closed toe shoes and dressing in layers is recommended so that you can remain comfortable throughout the day.

Inclement Weather Policy: In the case of inclement weather, volunteers will be notified via email of event cancellation or volunteer shift modifications.

Family Friendly Volunteer Info: Let us know in the RSVP notes if you are bringing any volunteers under 18, including their full name and age. You're also welcome to come early to watch the lion dance performance scheduled at 10 am, which is free to the public!
