Event Description:
The Men's Shelter provides daily food and shelter and so much more. The Shelter can sleep up to 209 people on a regular basis. Of this number, 104 are homeless individuals that are taking part in a residential recovery program. Our holistic approach help men turn their attention toward the future and long-term change.
Union Gospel Mission requires background checks for ALL volunteers. Please go to http://mskitchen.ugm.volunteerhub.com/userregistrationwizard/usernamepassword to create an account and fill out the background check information. You will only have to do this one time. So if you have already done a background check with UGM you do NOT have do it to again. Thank you.
What we'll be doing:
Come and serve dinner to our homeless guests. Volunteer tasks includes serving food, clearing tables and cleaning-up.
What you should know:
Volunteers must be able to perform light physical work and stand for up to 3 hours. They must also be compassionate and friendly to guests who are homeless. Volunteers need to wear comfortable, modest clothing and closed-toe shoes.
Where to Meet:
Check in at the front desk and they will direct you to the kitchen
Seattle's Union Gospel Mission:
Seattle's Union Gospel Mission is a private faith-based organization that helps the community reach out with compassion to those who have lost hope. And as a community, we empower one another to build, lead and give back.
The Mission has taken a collaborative, partnership approach from the start. The Mission was born of necessity during the Great Depression when hundreds of people were going hungry and homeless in Seattle. Local business leaders and churches came together to change all that.
78 years later, we're still a change agent. Our expertise, trustworthiness and faithful commitment to service have brought us national recognition.
