Date: Mar 26th 2014, 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm
Staff: Manager: Melissa G

Event Description:

Rasing A Reader is launching a new volunteer program to help the organization improve their data collection and evaluation techniques, as well as help prepare for upcoming events in their partner communities (Brockton, Chelsea, Everett, Lawrence, Lowell, Malden, Revere, and Springfield). Volunteers will gather monthly and work on projects that will vary from data entry, to office support, to arts and crafts projects.

What we'll be doing:

Volunteer tasks will vary from doing data entry input into our Salesforce database, to prepping arts and crafts activities for future workshops, to writing personalized thank you cards, to making outreach phone calls. Before the event a list of specific tasks will be available!

What you should know:

Volunteers should know that they do not need to stay for the entire four hours (although we would love that!) and that they should be willing to partake in a short Salesforce training if one of the tasks is data entry.

Where to Meet:

Volunteers should meet at 9B Hamilton Place on the third floor at our Raising A Reader MA office. If your running late, you should contact Anne Marie Davenport at 508-734-0565 for information on where the group is.

Raising A Reader:

Raising A Reader MA is an evidence-based early literacy organization that helps families of young children (newborn to age 5) develop, practice, and maintain habits of reading with their young children at home. Our core program model, which both increases access to books and offers families tools and supports for strengthening the culture of reading at home, is driven by 25 years of research that show the most significant factor impacting a childs academic success is being regularly read to by a parent or other primary adult caregiver before starting kindergarten. The goal of Raise A Reader is to end the cycle of low literacy by helping families across Massachusetts develop high impact home reading routines that lay the groundwork for a lifetime of learning, success, and productive, responsible citizenship
