Event Description:
Each day Food Lifeline receives bulk shipments of edible food that would otherwise go to waste. Through the support of volunteers, Food Lifeline can make this food available to folks who really need it. With the dedication of its volunteer Food Lifeline is able to repack the bulk donations it receives and provide food to over 300 food banks, shelters and meals programs throughout Western Washington. Projects range from labeling canned goods, to repacking 1500 pound totes of frozen vegetables, to sorting and inspecting donated food products. But whatever the project, it’s always fun and rewarding!Food Lifeline:
Food Lifeline approaches hunger as a logistical problem that can be solved. Working with the food industry and its surpluses, we come up with creative solutions to stopping hunger, including redirecting good food from manufacturers, farmers, grocery stores and restaurants that might otherwise go to waste. We provide 116,000 meals a day to local food assistance programs, and that, combined with our policy work, creates a sustainable approach to hunger.
