Event Description:
For 29 years, the annual Oakland Dia de Los Muertos Festival has welcomed tens of thousands of visitors to the vibrant, culturally-rich Fruitvale neighborhood for a free, outdoor, family-friendly event taking place to commemorate the Mexican traditions around the Dia de Los Muertos. Festival attendees enjoy world-class live music, family-friendly games, rides and activities, traditional Latin American artisans, and the stunning altares created by community members paying homage to Los Muertos.
In order to volunteer for this event you must sign up for a 9:30am to 1:30pm shift (any task) directly with The Unity Council at the following link: 2024 Dia de los Muertos Volunteer SignUp Link
What we'll be doing:
These are the volunteer opportunities available for 9:30am to 1:30pm when you sign up. Descriptions of each are located on the sign up site. The majority of them will require standing and or walking for several hours. There may be limited seated assignments.

What you should know:
Please wear comfortable clothing and shoes. Bring a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen and a refillable water bottle as it may be a warm and sunny day. Street parking is extremely limited, the organizers highly encourage taking BART to Fruitvale Station. The festival is steps from the station. The festival area will be on International Blvd. in Oakland between Fruitvale Ave and 40th Avenue.
Volunteers will receive:
2024 Dia de los Muertos Festival T-shirt (design in description box), a hot lunch from a local business, snacks & beverages, entry into volunteer raffle
Where to Meet:
Meeting place at Volunteer Headquarters TBD in order to sign in on One Brick waiver.
