Event Description:

Looking for OUTDOOR opportunities to help San Francisco residents through the COVID-19 pandemic? The SF/Marin Food Bank needs your help in staffing a number of OUTDOOR socially distanced food pantry pop ups around San Francisco.

Please note that in addition to signing up here you must also sign up with the SF/Marin food bank's online scheduling system. Create an individual volunteer account for yourself and the link for this opportunity: https://volunteering.sfmfoodbank.org/need/detail/?need_id=536322

Thank you for helping the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank and our response to COVID-19.

Volunteers will be assigned to manage the line, assist with check in, and pre-pack groceries for distribution.  For safety reasons, only volunteers who have reserved a space may volunteer. Walk-ins will not be permitted. Please read these guidelines for serving at a Pop-Up Pantry, including the highlights below:

Please bring a mask/facial covering.

Wear close toed shoes.

We will be outside, please wear comfortable clothing (we recommend layers, a hat, and sunscreen due to the ever-changing weather conditions).

Be aware there will not be a place to store personal belongings, please do not bring valuables.

Please bring a secure lidded water bottle and a snack.

Volunteers must wear gloves at all times (provided by the food bank).

We ask that any volunteer who does not feel well refrain from attending their volunteer shift.

What we'll be doing:

Volunteers can be assigned to one of several tasks including but not limited to helping with set up, pre-bagging the food, managing the flow of food recipients to expedite a safe distribution.

What you should know:

***Parking may be challenging; please give yourself extra time.  Street parking is limited immediately around the school.  Volunteers may be able to find some parking on Montgomery Street between Pacific Avenue and Sacramento Street and walk uphill to the school.

Portsmouth Square Parking Garage (733 Kearny Street) is the closest parking facility.  Kearny Street is a one way street running north from Market Street.  If you are driving along Kearny Street stay on the left lane to enter the garage immediately at the corner of Kearny and Clay Streets.  If you miss it make a left on Washington Street and loop back around to Clay and Kearny Streets. ***

Please check-in with SF-Marin Food Bank staff upon arrival and they will get you started!

San Francisco-Marin Food Bank:

The San Francisco-Marin Food Bank's mission is to end hunger in San Francisco. It works toward that goal by distributing food and advocating for improvement in government food programs and policies.

A nationwide network of food suppliers allows the food bank to turn each dollar donated into $9 of nonperishable groceries, fresh produce, bread and meat for the community.

An affiliate of Feeding America (formerly America's Second Harvest) - the nation's food bank network - the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank supplies food to more than 600 community food programs ranging from senior centers and after-school programs to soup kitchens. The food bank reaches tens of thousands of individuals each month. This year, the food bank will distribute 33 million pounds of food, which is enough to provide more than 70,000 meals to hungry San Franciscans every day.
