Event Description:
The SF One Brick event team bring you another OUTDOOR SOCIAL "DISTANCE" event just in time for the Independence Day Holiday weekend. Instead of fireworks and volunteering onboard the USS Hornet Museum as we have done during the pre-COVID era, we will undertake one of the most scenic urban hikes in the nation!
Visit WWII historic sites, including the USS San Francisco Memorial and coastal defense batteries. See breathtaking views of the Golden Gate. Walk alongside the historic route of a long forgotten 19th century railway that transported wealthy San Franciscans to a day at the Cliff House and Sutro Baths. Take a detour to see the Chinese Six Company's cenotaphs in Lincoln Park's golf course. Admire the Sea Cliff neighborhood via the Coastal and Lands End trails. Marvel at the Art Deco 1930's construction of the Golden Gate Bridge Area. If time permits, we will conclude with a visit to the Gold Rush/Civil War-era Fort Point NHS under the southern end of the GGB for a memorable, adventurous hike!

We'll see you there on Sunday!
What we'll be doing:
What you should know:
The one way distance from the Lands End Lookout to the Fort Point NHS is 3-1/2 miles. Optionally we can continue to Fort Mason along the Crissy Field trails for another 3 miles. Wear sturdy closed toe shoes, dress in layers as the onshore winds can be fierce during daylight hours. Bring a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen if sunny. As always since the beginning of the COVID pandemic, please wear a face covering during the hike.
Bring your choice of bottled beverages to hydrate as we hike and also lunch if you wish. Some snacks will be provided. Restrooms will be available along the route.
if you drive to the start of the hike, parking will not be available at the Lands End Lookout parking lot. The parking lot near the USS San Francisco Memorial inside of Lands End Park will be open.
Where to Meet:
Meet at the Lands End Lookout by the lion statue around 9am.
One Brick - San Francisco/East Bay:
One Brick is a 501(c)3 nonprofit volunteer organization that brings volunteers together to support other local nonprofit organizations. One Brick has adopted an innovative twist to the volunteer experience: we create a friendly and social atmosphere around volunteering. After each volunteer event - which typically lasts only 3 to 4 hours - we invite volunteers to gather at a local restaurant or cafe where they can get to know one another in a relaxed social setting. Through our volunteer projects, we provide nonprofits with the much-needed labor to carry out their visions. At the same time we foster an environment in which our volunteers can meet new people, both socially and professionally.
