San Francisco/Marin Food Bank COVID-19 volunteering policies

Please read for specific instructions in response to COVID-19.

For the safety of staff, volunteers, and participants:
Only volunteers who have a reservation may attend a volunteer shift. A facial covering is required at every shift (one-way valve masks are not acceptable); unfortunately, the Food Bank is unable to provide masks. If you are not feeling well or have been in contact with someone unwell, please cancel your shift. Closed-toed shoes are required.

THIS IS NOT AN OFFICIALLY SANCTIONED ONE BRICK VOLUNTEER EVENT.

In addition to signing up here, you must also sign up with the SF/Marin Food Bank's Galaxy online scheduling system. Create an individual volunteer account for yourself and sign up through the link for this opportunity: https://volunteering.sfmfoodbank.org/need/detail/?need_id=536146

if it is full, click on the waitlist option and space usually opens up 1-2 days before the shift. You be notified via a broadcast email and it is first come, first served to all the volunteers that are on the waitlist.

What we'll be doing:

We will be sorting, inspecting and repackaging thousands of pounds of food in this short two-hour shift! You will be able to immediately see how much your work is benefiting the SF community.

What you should know:

ATTIRE
- Closed-toe shoes are required at all volunteer projects. Anyone wearing sandals, flip-flops, or any other shoe with an open toe will not be able to participate in the project.
- Because you'll be helping to repack food, please wear casual and clean clothing, long pants, securely fastened jewelry, and comfo rtable (no open-toe) shoes.
- We suggest dressing in layers, as the temperature in the warehouse is often cold.
- Volunteers are required to bring and wear a facial covering (one-way valve masks are not accepted), improvised is OK.

Where to Meet:

***Please park on the streets surrounding the Food Bank.

-Our parking lot is for our partner agencies picking up food for their participants.
-Pennsylvania Ave directly in front of the Food Bank (marked with cones) is temporarily for volunteers who are picking up and delivering grocery bags.
Please arrive 10-15 minutes before your shift to get signed in with a staff person.

San Francisco-Marin Food Bank:

The San Francisco-Marin Food Bank's mission is to end hunger in San Francisco. It works toward that goal by distributing food and advocating for improvement in government food programs and policies.

A nationwide network of food suppliers allows the food bank to turn each dollar donated into $9 of nonperishable groceries, fresh produce, bread and meat for the community.

An affiliate of Feeding America (formerly America's Second Harvest) - the nation's food bank network - the San Francisco-Marin Food Bank supplies food to more than 600 community food programs ranging from senior centers and after-school programs to soup kitchens. The food bank reaches tens of thousands of individuals each month. This year, the food bank will distribute 33 million pounds of food, which is enough to provide more than 70,000 meals to hungry San Franciscans every day.
