Event Description:
The promenade will be a participatory community spectacle highlighting the themes of mermaids/mermen, other water creatures and features (fish, whales, seals, seaweed, boats, etc.), and the environment (our love of the Charles River, concerns about how climate disruption is affecting our world, and in particular our rivers and waterways). The parade will starting in Central Square, Cambridge, moving along Essex Street, Mass Ave, and Sidney Street, ending in University Park
What we'll be doing:
Volunteers will assist with tasks related to managing the parade - serving as parade "wranglers", in one of the following groups:
Knowledge Hub – We need some organizationally savvy volunteers to help queue up the performers, and to help place the performers in a decided order.
Front of Parade – Move everyone aside to make way for the parade! Keep a steady pace.
Side of Parade – Keep the groups in the middle moving so there are no big gaps.
Rear of Parade – Keep the groups at the rear moving so there are no big gaps.
The event manager will provide more details in their reminder emails to voluneers.
What you should know:
Please dress appropriately to be outdoors on your feet for several hours. We recommend wearing sneakers, and something comfortable and bringing reusable water bottles!
All volunteers will be given a food voucher that can be used at any of the delicious vendors. Volunteers are also more than welcome to join the Cambridge Arts Council for a BIG THANK YOU at the end of the day.
Where to Meet:
Volunteer check-in is at the Main Information Tent, which will be located adjacent to the Asgard Irish Pub, at the intersection of Mass Ave and Sidney Street.
Please check in with the One Brick event manager upon arrival.
Parking will be limited and therefore taking public transportation is highly recommended. The nearest T stations are Kendall/MIT and Central Square both on the Red Line. The event manager will provide more details on the meeting location closer to the date of the event.
