Event Description:
Help prepare and package meals for critically ill clients across the Greater Boston Area.
What we'll be doing:
Help prepare and package meals tailored for greater Boston's critically ill. This is anything from washing, peeling and chopping vegetables to packaging soups, salads, entrees and desserts, and preparing and organizing meals to be distributed.
What you should know:
You will be helping to prepare and package meals for our critically-ill neighbors who have weakened immune systems. Safe food handling, sanitation and wellness are top priority. All members of the team who are volunteering need to be 100% healthy. You CANNOT volunteer at Community Servings if you have experienced a fever, diarrhea, a persistent cough or runny nose in the last 24 hours. Please come in comfortable clothes and shoes. Everyone needs to wear a long-sleeved shirt, either pants or a long skirt, and shoes that cover and protect the feet. Leggings, shorts, pajama pants, hospital scrubs, short skirts, flats, ripped jeans and capris are not allowed in the kitchen. Your head will need to be covered. You can bring a baseball hat or Community Servings will provide a hairnet. An apron will be provided but spills and stains can happen. Remember, if you are not dressed appropriately you will not be able to volunteer!
NOTE: Unfortunately this event is not wheelchair accessible and is not suitable for individuals who are deaf or blind. We do our best to ensure as many events as possible are accessible. The nonprofit can accommodate volunteers who can do light lifting, counting, and sorting. If you have specific questions in this area, please contact the event manager.
Where to Meet:
The Event Manager will send in more details as even gets closer.
Check in with the Event Manager in the orientation room at Community Servings. Let the person at the front desk know you are volunteering with One Brick Boston.
Utilizing Google Maps is the best way to get to the event. Community Servings (18 Marbury Terrace, Jamaica Plain, MA 02130) is located a short walk off of the Stony Brook T station on the Orange Line. There is a small parking lot with limited parking - otherwise you will need to find street parking.
