Event Description:
What we'll be doing:
Kitchen volunteers are a part of CSB’s lively, bustling kitchen operation! You're a part of a team of top chefs who prepare nutritious and delicious meals for our chronically ill clients. Slicing, dicing, chopping, packaging—all are examples of tasks you could do in any given shift. No prior kitchen experience required…just a willingness to learn a new skill. Each week we prepare and package 4000 meals—we couldn’t do this without our amazing community of volunteers!
What you should know:
What to Wear: Solid, closed toe shoes are required for safety reasons (no sandals, flip flops, slippers, Uggs, etc). We recommend dressing in layers since it can be chilly in the kitchen. Volunteers should be able to stand for the entire session, and may be asked to perform some light lifting and bending. Hair should be tied back and covered for hygiene reasons. We will provide clean bandanas, aprons and gloves for you to wear.
Parking: There is ample free street parking in the neighborhood, or you can park in our lot if there are open spots.
Group Member Application: All Lifelong volunteers are now required to fill out a volunteer application, including permission to run a criminal background check and acknowledgement of Lifelong's volunteer agreement, waiver and release. Paper applications will be available at Chicken Soup Brigade, or volunteers can complete the Online Group Member Application ahead of time (fields marked with asterisks are required; Group or Employer Name will be "One Brick"). Volunteers can request to be removed from Lifelong's mailing list in the Additional Questions, Comments or Concerns? field.
Where to Meet:
Entering the 210 S. Lucile building: Ring the doorbell at the first door on the left when you’re facing the building. This is the easiest way to get into the kitchen. A staff member will show you where to put your coats and bags, and will have you sign a waiver when you get on site.
