Event Description:
At the Repack Project, volunteers come to Emergency Food Network's Lakewood Distribution Center to repackage dry, frozen or fresh bulk foods into smaller, family-sized portions. Once the food is repackaged, it is distributed to individuals and families seeking help at the 60+ Pierce County food banks, meal sites, and shelters that EFN serves. Each year, volunteers repackage more than 1 million pounds of food (equivalent to 3 meals a day for a year for 285 families of four).
What we'll be doing:
Volunteers will be repacking food donations, such as rice, oats, beans, frozen corn, frozen peas, frozen carrots, corn on the cob, apples, and oranges. Staff will be on site to provide training and supervision.
What you should know:
The warehouse is enclosed but not temperature controlled, so a sweatshirt or jacket is recommended. Please keep in mind there’s always the potential to get food on your clothes. Due to safety reasons, closed toe shoes are required.
Where to Meet:
Inside the Distribution Center, near the front door.
