Event Description:
On Saturday, May 21st Special Olympics Montgomery County will hold the annual Montgomery County Special Olympics Invitational Track and Field meet. Directions to Plymouth Whitemarsh High School are below. We are looking for volunteers willing to come out to help a group of 175 athletes from Lebanon, Lehigh, Montgomery, Bucks and Delaware counties compete in their events.
Other community volunteers will be responsible for escorting athletes to the event venues while One Brick volunteers will be helping to check in athletes at each venue, getting the athlete and buddy in the right queue, measuring throws, recording results, sending results to awards stands, maintaining water supplies and carrying out awards. All volunteers are welcome to join athletes, coaches and other volunteers for a picnic at the end of competition.
Assignments will be given out ahead of time from the Special Olympics Event Manager and will be emailed to you by One Brick so please check your email so you will have an idea what to expect. Instructions for your task will be included.
Dress comfortable and for the weather.
Exact Location to meet will be determined closer to the event. As always, look out for the bright orange One Brick tees!
Special Olympics of Montgomery County:
Special Olympics is an international organization dedicated to providing
individuals with intellectual disabilities, or other significant developmental
disability, with an opportunity to train and compete in Olympic-style sports.
Through training and competition, athletes improve their physical fitness and general health.
The athletes gain the discipline, the inter-personal and social skills, and the self-confidence to become contributing, participating members of our community.
The volunteers who make the program possible have the opportunity, not only to share in the athletes achievements, but also to grow and learn themselves.
Special Olympics Montgomery County conducts training and competition in 18 sports at various venues within the county, serving over 1,200 athletes last year. All activity is provided solely with funds and support from within the county. The programs are carried out with the 100% volunteer efforts of the management team, coaches and other assistant volunteers.
