Event Description:

Fight for Air Climbs are the American Lung Association’s most unique fundraisers. Climbs take place in prominent skyscrapers, stadiums or arenas and involve walking, running or racing up hundreds of steps. Sometimes called a "vertical road race", teams and individual participants can use the event as a fitness target, as a race, or as a great way to be active and meet new friends.

We know a lot about lung disease, but there is so much we don't know. Your participation will raise the funds necessary to provide lifesaving education, research and advocacy so we can beat lung disease and soon find a cure.

There are around 2000 climbers which includes firefighters who climb in full gear.

What we'll be doing:

Volunteers will be assisting with various day of activities including potentially the following: setup the basement, lobby, and various checkpoints throughout the race, set up water/rest stops, greeters, climber checkin, bag checkin, volunteer checkin, ALA table/mission support, firefighter gear check, race monitors, goody bag giver, snacks support, and bib caller.

What you should know:

Parking will be available at the Pi Alley Garage, 275 Washington Street (next door to One Boston Place) at a special daily rate of $12. This location is easily accessible via the following MBTA stations: Orange Line - State St.

Red Line - Park St.
Green Line - Haymarket or Park St. (Government Center is closed)
Blue Line - State St.

Where to Meet:

All volunteers will first meet with the One Brick Event Manager in the lobby of One Boston Place. Then everyone will go one floor beneath the lobby and check in with ALA Volunteer Coordinators. All volunteers should follow the Volunteer Check in signs that will lead to the group checkin location.

American Lung Association of the Northeast:

The American Lung Association is the leading organization in the Northeast working to save lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease. As Americas oldest voluntary health organization, founded in 1904, we began our fight dedicated to combating tuberculosis (TB), the most dreaded disease at the time. As TB was brought under control, the focus expanded to all lung diseases including asthma, tobacco control and environmental health issues. Today, the focus is on healthy lungs and healthy air. The American Lung Association in the Northeast serves Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont. With your generous support, the American Lung Association is Fighting for Air through research, education and advocacy.
