Event Description:
Special Olympics Pennsylvania is divided into three sections and Montgomery County is in the Eastern Section. There are three tournaments for each sport offered - the Local run by and held in each county, the Sectional run by the state, and the Summer Games run by the state. This tournament is the first of the three that the athletes can attend for bowling, each tournament is the prerequisite for the next.
What we'll be doing:
One Brick volunteers will be assigned to a lane to make sure the lanes run smoothly and keep moving. Athletes using ramps or are in wheel chairs will need the most help. Regular bowlers bowl three games and they need the least help; bumpers bowl two games and need the most help. This is perfect opportunity for a volunteer who wants to have a lot of fun interacting with awesome athletes and cheering them on!
What you should know:
You will be in a bowling alley so dress appropriately. Each lane is awarded their medals as they finish bowling, then lunch is served to both athletes and volunteers. We are scheduled until 12:30pm, but you are more than welcome to stay longer and enjoy lunch!
Where to Meet:
One Brick will meet inside of the front door at Facenda.
Special Olympics of Montgomery County:
Special Olympics is an international organization dedicated to providing
individuals with intellectual disabilities, or other significant developmental
disability, with an opportunity to train and compete in Olympic-style sports.
Through training and competition, athletes improve their physical fitness and general health.
The athletes gain the discipline, the inter-personal and social skills, and the self-confidence to become contributing, participating members of our community.
The volunteers who make the program possible have the opportunity, not only to share in the athletes achievements, but also to grow and learn themselves.
Special Olympics Montgomery County conducts training and competition in 18 sports at various venues within the county, serving over 1,200 athletes last year. All activity is provided solely with funds and support from within the county. The programs are carried out with the 100% volunteer efforts of the management team, coaches and other assistant volunteers.
