Event Description:
The Playhouse program was started four years ago as a way to engage volunteers on a continual basis. It gives groups the opportunity to contribute to Habitat and its mission even during those times when construction site volunteer opportunities are not available. Groups that do prep work help Habitat for Humanity get a leg up on their construction schedule and meet the demands of all of the groups interested in building playhouses with them.
What we'll be doing:
Volunteers will help us prepare for the offsite builds that we perform later in the year and will have the opportunity to use power tools and painting materials in the process. Specific tasks will include: cutting out playhouse pieces, base painting playhouse sides, preparing roofing blanks, and machining windows and doors.
What you should know:
Volunteers should wear comfortable shoes and clothing. Because the activities that volunteers will be doing are hands on there is a high potential for getting messy, we also recommend that volunteers wear clothes that they will not mind getting dirty or painted on.
Where to Meet:
All of prep days take place at the Habitat workshop in Milpitas, within the Sobrato Center for Non-profits. Here are directions to the site. Please try to arrive 5-10 minutes early so that the event can begin on time.
