Event Description:
This event will last from 10 AM -1 PM. Please plan to stay for the entire volunteer event.
Forgotten Harvest rescues food by collecting surplus, prepared and perishable food from a variety of sources such as grocery stores, restaurants, caterers, dairies, farmers, wholesale food distributors, and other Health Department-approved sources. This donated food – that would otherwise go to waste – is delivered free of charge to emergency food providers throughout metro Detroit.
What we'll be doing:
One Brick Detroit will sort, inspect, and re-pack pounds of fresh food. The repackaged food will be given to those in need.
What you should know:
Do not wear open-toe or high-heel shoes, as it is a safety hazard; all volunteers MUST wear closed-toe shoes. Tank tops are prohibited, as are shorts/skirts. Wear long pants. Long, dangling jewelry should not be worn. These are safety/sanitary guidelines. Thank you for your compliance.
Volunteers may bring a jacket or sweater to wear in the warehouse. A hair net will be provided for any volunteer without a hat. Leave valuables and purses locked in the trunk of your car. There will not be a secure place to put these items inside the warehouse.
Where to Meet:
The Forgotten Harvest Warehouse is located across from Northland Mall, between 8 Mile and 9 Mile. Meet inside of the warehouse. There will be a ten-minute orientation. Free parking is available at the warehouse. Additional parking is located in the adjacent lot.
