Event Description:
SWP's vision is that one day all citizens will have the skills and opportunities to become economically self-sufficient and achieve their full potential. SWP also envisions a world where all corporations effectively hire, retain and advance top talent from low-income communities. Help individuals prepare to face the workplace by conducting mock interviews!
What we'll be doing:
As a volunteer you will be conducting 3-4 mock interviews with low income individuals referenced from nonprofits throughout the District. Beyond interviewing them, you will give them feedback on their skills and resume to facilitate the job search process.
Mock Interview Day is a great way to learn more about StreetWise and use your professional skills to give back to your Washington, DC community without any future commitment.
What you should know:
Volunteers DO NOT need any prior experience conducting interviews. We will be provided with a list of sample questions along with guidance on how to conduct the short, mock interviews. We'll also be paired with a partner, which makes the whole experience easier. They promise it's very easy and fun from an interviewer's standpoint. The interviewees are also really appreciative for the opportunity!
StreetWise Partners:
StreetWise Partners was founded in 1997 when youngprofessionals, working in New York Citys financial sector, envisioned aprogram that would meaningfully help low-income, unemployed and underemployedindividuals develop the skills, confidence and connections needed to break thecycle of poverty. Today, we operate atthe intersection of poverty alleviation, economic development, and workforcedevelopment to transform the lives of disadvantaged, low-income individuals byhelping them realize their career potential. We do so by delivering high-impactprofessional development services and providing two-to-one career mentoring byvolunteer business professionals in corporate settings. Our vision is that oneday, all citizens will have the skills and opportunities to achieve their fullpotential.
Our Washington, DC programs began in 2006, when twovolunteers relocated to DC from New York and witnessed a need for StreetWisePartners program in their new city. Ourfirst program in the region was launched in Spring 2006 at Gospel RescueMinistries with more than 30 volunteers from firms including Accenture,Caxton-Iseman Capital, the World Bank, and more. We now run four programs annually inWashington, DC, directed out of a regional office located in the District. Since we launched programs in the region, wehave served more than 250 individuals with the help of more than 1,000 volunteer business professionals.
