Event Description:
Longfellow Creek is one of four fish baring creeks left in the City of Seattle. Once teeming with fish, the creek has seen its health decline as development and storm runoff has increased over the last couple of decades. KCD and the Green Seattle Partnership have been working for the last several years to help protect and restore Longfellow creek. Activities have included the removal of invasive plants and garabage, installation of native trees and shrubs and continued maintainace of planted areas and walk trail.
What we'll be doing:
This event will be in conjunction with Duwamish Alive, which is a partnership with many local organizaitons, with the mission of restoring the Duwamish watershed. The event is also during the 40th aniversery of Earth Day, and a celebration of One Brick's first birthday in Seattle. Activities will include spreading mulch in planted areas and working to remove english ivy and blackberry.
What you should know:
KCD will provide all tools and gloves for the project, but if you have your own gloves bring them. Dress for the weather since the event is held outside, also wear clothes and sturdy shoes you don't mind getting dirty. KCD will provide water, coffee and a light snack. Bring your own water and lunch.
Where to Meet:
