Event Description:

Come out to the Sunset Community Garden for some gardening in San Francisco's oldest community garden! Get your hands dirty and do some weeding under the sun!

The garden is overgrown with oxalysis and other weeds. We need help with weeding the walkways, picking up pine branches and pine cones, and possibly digging a weed pit. Weeding is of the utmost importance to keep this sanctuary beautiful!

Sunset Community Garden:

Sunset Community Garden is a community garden in the Outer Sunset. It has an ocean view, and the garden was started as a WWII victory garden. Its gardeners are a culturally diverse group of mostly older people. Some of them are in their eighties. Because so many of the members are older, many have health problems (bending, gripping, seeing and heart problems that prohibit heavy lifting or prolonged work). The garden is a place where they can get outside in the sun, do some light exercise and enjoy the birds and nature.
