Event Description:

Stege Marsh is one of the few remaining tidal marshes in central San Francisco Bay. It is also rare in that it is connected to scrubland and grassland habitats. The Watershed Project is working in partnership with UC Berkeley, community volunteers, and students from second grade through the University level to restore marsh and upland habitat. The restored marsh and the surrounding uplands will provide habitat for the endangered California clapper rail and a diversity of waterfowl and shorebirds, as well as other wildlife species.

This winter, over 10,000 native plants will be installed. One Brick will be helping the Watershed Project weed newly established habitat and plant in the grassland around the edges of the marsh.

The Watershed Project:

The Watershed Project is an environmental education non-profit organization, with offices on the University of Californias Richmond Field Station, on the shore of central San Francisco Bay. They have been engaging communities in the protection of their local watersheds and creeks for the past ten years. The project's mission is to educate and inspire communities to protect their local watersheds. The Watershed Project has programs in three main areas: Education programs for teachers, students, and the general public, regional services to support grass-roots creek protection groups, and a marsh and grassland restoration project at West Stege Marsh on the Richmond Field Station.
