Event Description:
Remodeling Schoolyards in Oakland
Eat. Learn. Play., alongside KABOOM! and the Oakland Unified School District, has now fully remodeled 23 schoolyards. Stemming from the imagination of Oakland students, these kid-designed spaces provide access to safe and high-quality schoolyards for students and the surrounding school community.
As part of our vision to transform the school experience for a generation of Oakland students, Eat. Learn. Play. has been working to ensure all Oakland elementary and middle school students have access to the resources, support, and spaces for kids to thrive and have great childhoods. Our work includes remodeling more than 25 public elementary schoolyards throughout Oakland by the end of 2026 to be the dream places for kids to play, learn, and spend time with their classmates.
PROJECT SCOPE:
In 2023, Oakland Academy of Knowledge was our second schoolyard project, where we built a new play structure and installed a multi-sport court. As the scope of these projects has expanded over the years, we are thrilled to be returning to give the students the complete schoolyard they deserve.
Volunteers will help bring to life two kid-designed play structures, a new multi-sport court, a soccer field, and a nature exploration area. The remodel will also feature multiple newly planted trees, a mini meadow, three garden beds, an outdoor classroom with tables and umbrellas, ground art, and a Little Town Library.
One Brick San Francisco Bay Area will be partnering with All Hands & Hearts and the Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation for this project. To learn more about All Hands & Hearts and/or the Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation, please click on their logo.
