What we'll be doing:
Food distribution is a great chance for volunteers to interface with clients and help build a resilient community. This is a hands-on volunteer activity where some jobs require repeated bending, carrying, and lifting of up to 25 pounds or more. This is an outdoor Farmers Market-style distribution where activities may include setting up tables and displaying food; unloading and moving food from pallets; sorting produce; bagging frozen meat items; greeting and checking in clients; assisting clients with their selections; and cleaning up the site and handling recyclables and compost.
What you should know:
Volunteers must be willing and able to work with people of different backgrounds and nationalities, exhibit compassion and sensitivity, and maintain strict confidentiality of all client and volunteer information.
