Event Description:

The World Tree of Hope is a global holiday project promoting peace, love and humanitarianism for our community of San Francisco and for all people on earth. The tree is created by a team of volunteers in San Francisco with the help of people from all over the world.

For 2025, we will be putting up the full 23 foot high tree for the first time since the start of COVID-19 which we were unable to do due to social distancing and time restrictions at Grace Cathedral.  This version of the World Tree of Hope is decorated with up to 17,000 origami cranes and stars that are inscribed with people's wishes and hopes for the future of the world.

The World Tree of Hope incorporates the symbols of many traditions — the tree, light, gathering, stars and peace cranes to create a unique experience that invites all people to come together and celebrate the possibility for a brighter future. The tree is inspired by the story of Sadako Sasaki, the little girl whose journey and death several years after the bomb was dropped in Hiroshima, transformed the crane into a symbol of world peace.

What we'll be doing:

Volunteers will be helping to move all components of the 2025 World Tree of Hope from it's storage area down to the lower level assembly room.  We will unbox some of the branches and proceed to the early stages of Tree building.  If time allows we can create paper squares and start the origami crane folding process.

What you should know:

Dress is casual and snacks/bottled water will be provided.  Hand sanitizer and alcohol wipes are also provided.

Although there are multiple dates and times to participate in helping to put up the 2025 World Tree of Hope only dates and times where a member of the One Brick management team is present will the event be listed on the One Brick calendar.

Where to Meet:

At this stage of the project we will be working in a large room on the ground level of the Cathedral. To enter, please go to the street front/ground level entrance on Taylor Street. At street level next to the main steps that lead up to the cathedral, there are some glass double doors (which are next to the underground parking garage entrance). You will enter through these glass door. Please meet the One Brick Event Manager here and he/she can let you in.

Rainbow World Fund:

Rainbow World Fund (RWF) is an all-volunteer international humanitarian service agency based in the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) and friends community. RWFs mission is to promote LGBT philanthropy in the area of world humanitarian relief. Founded in 2000 by members of the San Francisco LGBT community, RWF works to help people who suffer from hunger, poverty, disease, oppression and war by raising awareness and funds to support relief efforts around the world. RWF works in the LGBT and friends community educating people about world need. Along with raising our communitys consciousness, RWF raises funds to support humanitarian relief projects. RWF provides a united voice, a visible presence, and a structure to deliver charitable assistance from the LGBT community to the larger world community. RWF currently supports projects focusing on global HIV/AIDS, water development, landmine eradication, hunger, education, orphans and disaster relief. RWF also works to raise awareness of the charitable contributions of the LGBT community, and to establish connections with non-LGBT communities. RWF programs strengthen our community by increasing LGBT visibility, serving as a platform for our communitys compassion and concern and changing how the world sees LGBT people by building bridges with the larger world community. More information here: http://www.rainbowfund.org/tree/rainbow-world-fund.html We also believe in the power of hope and try to inspire hope in all of our projects. In the United States we create The World Tree of Hope at Grace Cathedral annually.
