Event Description:

Lifelong’s food and nutrition program, Chicken Soup Brigade (CSB), improves the nutritional health of individuals living with chronic conditions and hunger. We recognize the importance of nutrition to overall health. It has the power to reduce symptoms of many illnesses. It can minimize medication side effects. And it can provide comfort when it is needed most.

Chicken Soup Brigade’s clients have specific health challenges, such as HIV, diabetes, kidney disease, cancers, or disabling arthritis. Most are living below the Federal Poverty Level, and all require assistance in managing their nutritional health. CSB offers a comprehensive food and nutrition program designed not only to feed people but to nourish them.

What we'll be doing:

Kitchen volunteers are a part of CSB’s lively, bustling kitchen operation! You're a part of a team of top chefs who prepare nutritious and delicious meals for our chronically ill clients. Slicing, dicing, chopping, packaging - all are examples of tasks you could do in any given shift. No prior kitchen experience required… just a willingness to learn a new skill. Each week we prepare and package 4000 meals - we couldn’t do this without our amazing community of volunteers!

Lifelong:

Lifelong's mission is to empower people living with or at risk of HIV/AIDS and/or other chronic conditions to lead healthier lives. Lifelong was formed in 2001 through the merger of Chicken Soup Brigade and Northwest AIDS Foundation. From our beginnings in 1983, when we passed a soup can around Volunteer Park and collected $42 to help people living with HIV/AIDS in our community, Lifelong has remained a leader in the fight against HIV/AIDS and continues to be a champion of healthy lives for all. Today, our years of serving people with HIV/AIDS have provided us with the knowledge base to help others experiencing hunger and the spectrum of HIV illnesses.
