Event Description:

The Muddy River Cleanup is a part of the Annual Earth Day Charles River Cleanup; this event takes place throughout the Charles River Watershed and builds on a national effort as part of American Rivers’ National River Cleanup® which, to date, has removed over 25 million pounds of trash from America’s waterways. From 2016 to 2019, the Annual Earth Day Charles River Cleanup was recognized by American Rivers for the Most Pounds of Trash Collected and Most Volunteers Mobilized. What we'll be doing:

Tasks can range from trash cleanups to invasive plant species removal to plantings.

What you should know:

Please contact your event manager closer to the event to get the exact location. The location will be throughout the Emerald Necklace (from Charlesgate to Franklin Park).  The wesbite will be updated with location information closer to the date of the event.

Wheelchair Accessibility: While the Conservancy strives to make its programming accessible to all, our volunteer maintenance events, such as Second Saturdays, do require participants to perform various types of manual labor, such as raking, pulling weeds or invasive plants, or lifting bags of trash or leaf litter. Since we work throughout the Emerald Necklace parks, the terrain we work on varies greatly and will not always be accessible to persons using wheelchairs or other mobility aids. Should you have a specific accessibility concern or request, please contact volunteer@emeraldnecklace.org, and we'll be happy to provide more site-specific information and accommodate your needs where possible

Where to Meet:
