Essential Service Provider: YES - Eastside Baby Corner volunteers are permitted onsite.
Full Vaccination Required: YES - All onsite volunteers must provide proof of vaccination per King County Executive Order (ACO-8-28-EO). An EBC employee will be checking in with volunteers before their first shift to verify their vaccination status by viewing their vaccination card, State of WA certificate, or photo of their card. To assist with this verification process, please email your Event Manager a photo of your full vaccination status including your name & date(s) of vaccination.
Masks Required: OPTIONAL - Masks are encouraged but optional inside EBC facilities. Volunteers are encouraged to wear their own masks, but a limited supply of masks should be available inside.
Health Screening Required: YES - Volunteers are required to complete Eastside Baby Corner's COVID-19 Waiver at the beginning of each volunteer shift. If you are feeling unwell, please cancel your RSVP through the One Brick website or email your Event Manager as soon as possible so that we can let EBC know.
Social Distancing Required: YES - Volunteers are required to maintain space between yourself and others while inside the building. Staff will place volunteers at socially distanced stations at the beginning of our shift.
Air Quality: Eastside Baby Corner has installed a Rabbit Air true-HEPA rated air purifier that covers more than 800 square feet, offers 6-stage air purification and deodorization, and filters out the most common allergens and environmental pollutants. EBC Shoreline has also transitioned to a fragrance-free facility model to help maintain our high indoor air quality.
Please note that Eastside Baby Corner follows COVID-19 guidelines provided by King County Public Health.
Getting Here: Free parking is available in the lot outside of the building. The nearest Metro bus lines are the 347 & 348. Bike racks are not available but you're welcome to bring your bike inside during our volunteer shift.
Entrance: EBC signage can be found at the entrance of North City Lumber on NE 175th. Follow the driveway straight, then take a left to the EBC building. Volunteers may park in the driveway of North City Lumber near the EBC building or on the side of the driveway. Enter through either the office door on the left or through the garage doors on the right if already open for donations.
Personal Items: EBC has a separate volunteer area for coats & small personal items. Volunteers are welcome to bring a water bottle to stay hydrated while volunteering, but water, hot beverages, and light snacks are usually available for volunteers onsite.
What to Wear: Please dress in comfortable clothing (layers are recommended to adjust for temperature preferences). For your safety, please wear closed toe shoes.
Inclement Weather Policy: In the event of inclement weather, this EBC site follows the Issaquah School District closure schedule since this is where EBC's main hub is located.
Family Friendly Volunteer Info: Let us know in the RSVP notes if you are bringing any volunteers who are 12 to 17 years old (PLEASE INCLUDE THE FULL NAME OF ALL VOLUNTEERS UNDER AGE 18). Children 12 or 13 years old must be accompanied by an adult chaperone on a one-to-one basis, and all volunteers will sign in on EBC's printed sign-in sheet upon arrival. It is the volunteer's responsibility to track his or her hours for community service (EBC canprovide a tracking form if needed). If volunteer hour verification is needed for school, please bring your school's required paperwork so that EBC staff can sign off at the end of our volunteer shift. Thanks!
Optional Donation Info: EBC accepts donations at this facility, so feel free to bring any baby items such as clothing, toys, or diapers (this is not required for our volunteer shift). An updated list of EBC's greatest donation needs can be found on the EBC site.
Where to Meet:
Please meet inside the front entrance of the EBC building. Look for our One Brick name tags!
KidVantage (formerly Eastside Baby Corner):
KidVantage (formerly EBC) was founded in 1990 because Karen Ridlon, a local pediatric nurse practitioner, became concerned about the large numbers of babies in her practice that began life without adequate food, clothing, beds or safety equipment. Her commitment to giving these children a stronger start grew from a idea and a few items gathered in her dining room, into an agency that in 2016 filled its 500,000th order of absolute essentials.
For 50 weeks each year, volunteers and staff at KidVantage collect community donations, purchase and distribute children’s and maternity items to families in collaboration with organizations helping families in our area. Case managers from partner agencies assess the needs of the family, request the items from KidVantage, pick up and deliver them to the family. Serving a broad area across King County that extends to the Cascade foothills and from south of Renton into south Snohomish County, KidVantage serves as a diaper bank, a clothing bank, and a food source for more than 800 kids each week.
KidVantage leverages the impact of direct service providers by providing essential goods to the families they are helping. We practice good stewardship of resources through smart purchasing in bulk, reliance on volunteers and in-kind donations, including warehouse space donated by Rowley Properties. EBC is the major source of baby food, formula, diapers, cribs and car seats for eleven local food banks.
