Join One Brick volunteers at the Second Harvest Food Drive at their CalWorks location in San Jose!

What we'll be doing:

Food distribution is a hands-on volunteer activity. Activities could include assisting with room set up, unloading and moving food from pallets to the distribution center; sorting and distributing food; and clean up. Assisting with parking and traffic control.

This is a great chance for volunteers to interface with our clients. This volunteer activity does require some heavy lifting (a minimum of 25lbs.) and regular movement.

What you should know:

Although we check-in at 10:30a.m. the distribution does not start until all the food is unloaded from trucks. This varies between 11-12pm to start. Depending on whether the food lasts, and what time we started the finish time can vary between 1:30pm and 2:30pm.  Its OK to leave early if you need, or you get too hot etc.  

Water is provided. Gloves and sanitizer provided.

Bring your own mask, wear long pants, and closed toe shoes.  No flip-flops, shorts or capris allowed.

Please note there are no bathrooms on site (5mins drive away).

Where to Meet:

Distribution takes place in back parking lot by loading docks.  I will wear my One Brick baseball hat if you want to look out for me!

Second Harvest Food Bank - San Jose:

Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties is one of the largest food banks in the United States that was established in 1974. Second Harvest is a private nonprofit organization that collects and distributes more than one million pounds of food each week to low-income indivduals and families from Daly City to Gilroy. The food bank currently serves more than 250,000 individuals each month; more than half of which are seniors and children.
