Event Description:

Kapwa Gardens is a new outdoor space in the SOMA.  The space has been designed to help the neighborhood recover from the devastating mental, physical and economic effects of COVID-19.

Kapwa Gardens is seeking volunteers to help out with this special event setup and staffing.  You MUST register and schedule yourself through their website at https://kapwagardens.as.me/schedule.php (Please click on the Special Events Volunteer link for August 29th and either the 9:00am setup shift or the 11:30am guest check-in shift).  Shifts are 4 hours each and limited to 4 volunteers per shift.  You are welcome to sign up for multiple shifts as long as space is available on the scheduling website or app.

Volunteers are welcome to stay for the festival which will be a celebration of calamansi, the Filipino lime.  The actual festival hours will be 12pm to 5pm.

DO NOT just sign up through the One Brick website and assume that you have registered.  You MUST register through the Kapwa Gardens scheduling link (provided above) in order to access entry.

While this is NOT an official One Brick project we will be posting this project on our calendar on days when a member of the One Brick San Francisco Events Team is present.

About this event - Sour Pow'r Calamansi Festival will be a celebration of food, products and drinks made from the Filipino citrus fruit.

If you prefer to use your own work gloves please bring them otherwise community work gloves or latex gloves are available to volunteers.

Should you have any questions re. this project or Kapwa Gardens please contact Hannah at hannah@kultivatelabs.org

What we'll be doing:

Volunteer tasks for the 9:00am shift will include setting up pop up tents and securing them with cinder blocks, lifting and moving tables, chairs and sound equipment out of storage and helping vendors with load in if necessary among other tasks.

For those signing up for the 11:30am shift you will be assisting with guest check in, bussing tables although most guests bus themselves, wiping down and sanitizing table surfaces and checking on compost, landfill and recycling bins among other tasks.

What you should know:

Please wear clothes that you don't mind getting dirty.  Latex gloves will be provided.  If you prefer to use your own work gloves please bring them.  Bottled water is usually provided by Kapwa Gardens, but feel free to bring your own water bottle.  Leave all valuables at home as the volunteer storage space is open to all staff and volunteers.

With the sudden rise in Delta variant COVID cases, properly worn face masks covering both your nose and mouth are once again required.  In addition your temperature will be taken when you arrive in order to ensure the safety of everyone at the venue.

At the end of your shift you will receive complimentary credits from Kapwa Gardens to use towards food and products from participating vendors.
