March 2020 Harvey Scholarship

Harvey Relief Scholarship

Would love to join the trip but funding is tight? Thanks to recent kind donations we are able to offer scholarship opportunities.

Selection Criteria:

The selection criteria will be primarily needs-based – please only apply if you currently do not have the financial means to join us otherwise. We will also consider a candidate's prior volunteer experience both with One Brick and with other non-profits.

Award:

One Brick will provide a cash award of up to $350 to help cover airfare. Breakfast is provided by HI Houston and One Brick will be covering one group dinner on Sunday night. We will also cover the cost of staying at the Hostel (which is already discounted for One Brick)

Process:

  • Applicants should send an email to nola_fund@onebrick.org containing THREE short statements (of no more than 500 words).  Please note in the subject line you are appling for the Houston Trip
    • The first sentence should tell us why you are interested in attending the Harvey trip.
    • The second statement should tell us why you are applying for the scholarship.
    • The third should give us a little information about your prior volunteer experiences.
  • The names of recipients will be kept anonymous if requested.
  • After returning from the trip we ask that each recipient write a short article (no more than half a page) describing their experience on the trip. The article will be published on the website and in the One Brick Builds newsletter.
  • Scholarship Deadline is January 20, 2020

FAQ:

What is not covered? The award does not cover out of pocket expenses or the cost of transportation from the airport to the volunteer house or other local travel. We maintain a list of flight arrival times, and we encourage people to carpool. If a volunteer receives a ride, we suggest they pay something towards the rental cost.

Can I make a donation to support the fund? Yes! We'd love to make more places available.
