Event Description:
The Tour de Cure is an event that no matter what road you take, you can join thousands of people from around the country who have the same passion as you to fight diabetes and its burdens. The Tour de Cure’s cycling routes are for people of all cycling abilities and is regarded as one of the top multi-site cycling events in the country.
People ride, run and walk to raise critical funds and show support for all people living with diabetes. Tour de Cure fundraising directly supports research, education and advocacy for people living with type 1, type 2 and gestational diabetes.
Since its inception, the American Diabetes Association has invested more than $700 million in research and provided funding for more than 4,500 research projects.
The Association continues to be the largest provider of Diabetes Camps as well as weekend retreats and one-day events that benefit more than 6,500 children of all ages each year. $500,000 in "camperships" was awarded to children to attend summer diabetes camps.
The Association's programs and workshops help those affected take control of their diabetes. A high level of support is available for anyone newly diagnosed with type 1 or type 2 diabetes.
The Association’s Center for Information and Community Support fielded an average of 25,000 calls and emails per month to support all people with diabetes, particularly providing a great resource for the newly diagnosed.
Their Advocacy team helps thousands facing discrimination and protects the rights of children with diabetes to have the care they need at school. Thanks to the efforts of the advocates, the Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments help protect all those with diabetes-fighting for fairness in the workplace.
