Event Description:
More Than Words empowers young people ages 16-24 who are court involved, homeless, in the foster care system, or out of school to take control of their lives by taking control of a business.
We operate online as well as 2 brick-and-mortar bookstores located in Boston at 242 East Berkeley street and in Waltham at 56 Felton Street. (www.mtwyouth.org)
What we'll be doing:
Volunteers will have a youth-led tour of More Than Words, participate in an icebreaker activity, and then work alongside youth on various tasks to support the daily operations such as pre-scanning and sorting donations. At the end we have a short close out discussion.
What you should know:
Volunteers should wear comfortable clothing that they don't mind getting dirty. For safety it is strongly encouraged that volunteers wear close toed shoes, pants or long skirts. Space to secure valuables is limited, please keep personal belongings to a minimum.
We can provide gloves/masks for any who need them to sort through donations! These jobs can be dusty, so be aware if you have dust sensitivity.
NOTE: This event is wheelchair accessible and is able to accommodate volunteers with disabilities. If you require any accommodations, please let the event manager know, so we can work with the nonprofit hosting the event to make necessary accommodations. Thank you!
