Event Description:
Second Harvest Food Bank provides over a million pounds of food to individuals and families in Santa Clara and San Mateo counties. They are able to help out over 250,000 people every month.
Please note: We will be working at the location on North First Street.
What we'll be doing:
During this event we will work at the Second Harvest warehouse to help sort and package food for distribution to individuals and partner agencies. Tasks vary from event to event, so we won't know until the Second Harvest event manager hands out the assignments. At one time or another we've helped with all of these:
- Empty and sort items from donation barrels
- Glean usable food from produce donated by local farmers
- Subdivide bulk items so that they can be distributed
- Create food parcels for distribution
What you should know:
We will be working in a warehouse so safety and comfort are important.
- It can be chilly in the warehouse; however we will probably be working pretty hard - so layers are suggested.
- Long pants and close-toed shoes are required. High heels and sandals are not permitted in the warehouse. For sanitary reasons, tank tops are not permitted.
- It's best to leave purses, jewelry and other valuables at home or locked in your car trunk.
- Necklaces and long earrings pose a safety concern in the warehouse.
If this is your first time volunteering at Second Harvest it will speed up the process if you complete this form and bring it with you.
Where to Meet:
The entrance is very well marked at the front of the building. There will be more than one group of volunteers, so please find your One Brick event managers.
Please plan to arrive a few minutes early so that we can get you checked in. The Second Harvest event manager will do an intro before we get our assignment.
