Event Description:

The Friends of the Palo Alto Library / FOPAL have over 50,000 wonderful used books, records, videos, magazines, and more at their monthly sale. These are mostly from donations from individuals, estates, and companies. They also sell items that the Palo Alto library has removed from their shelves to make room for new purchases. This is a very large, structured book sale (more details available below) FOPAL is fortunate in having a large number of repeat customers and several regular book dealers. 

What we'll be doing:

Volunteers will be helping during the book fair as cashier assistants and floor monitors.

Cashier assistants help by greeting those waiting to check out, adding up the prices of each book and writing up a post-it with the total amount due on it for the cashiers. (This helps speed up the check out process in the Children's Room & Bargain Room) Assistant cashiers may also act as runners if extra bags or tabs are needed. These are found in the Main Room, from the Sales Manager.

Floor monitors help straighten books on the shelves, assist customers with finding specific book sections and directing the sales manager to any problem or concerns.

What to wear: Comfortable shoes (you'll be standing and walking around)

Food: Snacks and water are provided in each room.

Parking: There is plenty of free parking. Enter off Middlefield near the shopping center.

Please meet the Sales Day Manager in the Main Room (trailer) at the end of Cubberly parking lot closest to the shopping center.

Friends of the Palo Alto Library (FOPAL):

Friends of the Palo Alto Library (FOPAL) is one of the oldest friends organizations in Northern Californian, this year FOPAL will celibate 80 year of community library support! FOPAL holds a monthly used book sale (Second weekend of each month) that generates approximately $20,000. FOPAL's book sale is regarded as the second best friends book sale in Northern California, (San Francisco is #1) All proceeds go directly to the Palo Alto Community Libraries. To date FOPAL has donated over 3 million dollars to fund much needed library literacy / programming.
