My 1st NOLA experience

At first I was really nervous about the NOLA trip since I was traveling alone, and the closest thing to building/working on a home that I had experience with was changing a light bulb.  I knew the trip would force me out of my shell, and I also looked forward to learning a new skill or two.  I thought of past One Brick events and remembered how awesome all the volunteers and group dynamics were.  The people who sign up for these kinds of things are usually really cool and easy going people!  It was no surprise how well we all got along, and how 20 people shared two bathrooms so easily!  It was truly eye-opening to see how much work a group of strangers could get done in a week- we really transformed that house, and still managed to go out at night an explore the city!

It has been a few weeks since the NOLA trip came to an end, and I find myself still thinking about the people I met and the experiences we shared.  Sometimes I smile and laugh a little to myself, and other times I just wonder what they are doing right at that moment.  One of the best parts of the trip was meeting people from all over the country, but that also became the saddest part when we all returned home to different states!  New Orleans is a truly unique place that everyone should visit at some point in their lives.  I feel more patient, knowledgeable, open-minded, and cultured from this experience, and I would do it all again in a heartbeat!
