Executive Director Job Description

One Brick is a national organization with ten chapters across the US. 

Each chapter supports local nonprofit and community organizations by creating a unique, social and flexible volunteer environment for those interested in making a concrete difference in the community. We enable people to get involved, have an impact, and have fun, without the requirements of individual long-term commitments.

Position Description

The Executive Director drives and manages all One Brick activities. 

The Executive Director’s most important responsibility is to support our ten chapters spread across the country.  This requires him/her to build a good working relationship with the local Chapter Directors and to provide supervision, help and guidance where needed.

The Executive Director also works with the Board to set strategic goals and identify critical issues. S/he is then responsible for setting measurable and timely objectives to achieve the agreed goals and resolve issues.

S/he is also responsible for filing tax returns, making sure that the chapters have all necessary paperwork and deadlines met for the legal and financial obligations of the organization.

Estimated Time Commitment

The Executive Director is a fulltime position. 

Work hours are flexible within the constraints of meeting the positions responsibilities to the internal and external clients. However, as our Chapter Directors and Board members are volunteers, they are generally unavailable during the day. This means that most chapter calls and Board calls will be held in the evening.  Some travel is required.

It is important that s/he responds to emails in a timely manner.

Other Items

The Executive Director will work as a consultant and is expected to work from a home office.

Key Skills

To be successful the Executive Director needs to a self-starter who is able to communicate a clear and cohesive vision for the organization and then craft goals to help achieve them. S/he must be organized, a clear communicator and able to work with both the Board and the chapters to achieve common goals.

From a skills development perspective, you will learn how to work with a team and juggle competing priorities.  You will formulate a business plan for a national organization at the executive level, work with executives in numerous nonprofits, and learn how to organize and plan events from the top down and the bottom up.
